First Palouse Driver safety summit at Marriott

Palouse Regional Transportation Planning Organization will conduct its first driver safety summit Friday, Sept. 20, at the Courtyard Marriott in Pullman.

This focus will be on driver safety in our region. The summit will be just one day of sharing and educating others on driver safety.

The summit will have presenters from local and state agencies, law enforcement and first responders, local businesses, insurance providers and drivers education teachers.

Along with these presenters will be experts from Washington Traffic Safety Commission and from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Classes on bike and pedestrian safety are also scheduled.

The Palouse Driver Safety campaign was started in 2016, after several fatal accidents on highway 195 and 26, according to safepalousedrivers.com.

The goals for this campaign are to achieve zero fatal crashes by 2030; keep local residents, college students and regional drivers safe throughout the year; educate on improved driving practices along 195 and 26 and raise the awareness of distracted, drowsy and inexperienced driving.
