Pullman rated 15th safest college town

SafeWise released the fourth annual “Safest College Towns in America” on Aug. 5 in anticipation of the new semester starting for college students. To compile their report, SafeWise safety experts analyze the FBI’s most recent crime statistics from 2017 to calculate the total number of violent crimes committed in American college towns. The City of Pullman earned a ranking of 15th safest in the U.S.

To be in the running, cities needed to exceed 15,000 residents and be home to an accredited college that offers four-year degrees.

Pullman reported a violent crime rate of 0.68 per 1,000 people compared to the national average of 4.49. Pullman also reported a property crime rate of 15.22 per 1,000, nearly half that of the national average of 27.11.
