Whitman County Cougars lead league in A American Legion

The Whitman County Cougars Class A American Legion baseball team (ages 13-16) took over the top spot in the Spokane league by sweeping Lewis and Clark in a doubleheader Monday in Spokane.

The Cougars won 15-5 and 11-0.

Josh Greene pitched a no-hitter for the local team in game two. In the first game, Tyler Elbracht pitched for four innings with four strikeouts. At bat, he had three RBIs.

In both games, the third inning was key for Whitman County (12-5, 5-1 in league), with nine runs scored in the first game and six in the third inning of the second game.

On the day, the Cougars got hits from Josh Greene, Nick Strenge, Nick Robison, Elbracht, Marcus Hilliard, Elliott Lee, Brendan Doumit and Nick Robison.

East Wenatchee split

On a non-league road trip last week, the Cougars split two games, a 7-5 loss to Eastmont and an 18-7 win over Wenatchee. Greene led Whitman County against Wenatchee with three hits including a double.

Cougars, Post Falls

each win

The Cougars and Post Falls split a doubleheader at Oakesdale Thursday, June 20, in single A Legion ball. The visitors won 9-5 in the first game, before Whitman County won the second 8-4. Coach Pat Doumet credited Cody Interrieden with two strong performances in relief pitching. The Cougars had just two hits in the first game. Josh Greene got three hits with a triple and double in the second game, and Nick Robison had three hits with a double.
