New store opens in Tekoa

A new store has opened in Tekoa at the site of the former Thompson Barn – which continues as a 10x20 space within Homestead General Store, open since May 8, on Crosby Street.

The store is owned by Jim and Diedre Lee, along with Chet and Susie Creger.

“Everyone retired and we just needed something to do,” said Diedre, who with husband Jim, previously ran an antique mall in Tacoma. The Cregers ran a gift shop at Langley on Whidbey Island and an antique mall in Bothell.

Both couples now live in Tekoa. Jim and Susie are brother and sister.

“It is the best little town,” said Diedre. “The people here are so nice.”

The Homestead General Store will carry antiques from kitchen items to furniture, along with some “guy stuff” such as old tools.

“We've just got a little bit of a lot,” Deidre said.

New items for sale include placemats, candles, kitchen towels, soap, baskets and more.

“From farmhouse to Victorian, the new stuff lends itself to the old stuff,” Diedre said.

More space is being prepared in the back room, which the owners will paint and put a new wood floor down.

The store's grand opening is today, June 13.

Its hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

For Slippery Gulch Days this week, beginning Thursday, the store will hold a 15 percent off sale and serve lemonade and cookies.
