Bud Hut theft sentenced

Kody M. Schneider, 21, the Moscow resident who was originally charged with robbing the Bud Hut marijuana shop along the Pullman-Moscow Highway April 8, was sentenced to 60 days in jail Friday morning after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree theft in superior court. The charge against Schneider was reduced to theft after an investigation led deputies to believe the clerk at the Bud Hut, originally thought to be a victim of the robbery, was alleged to be a cohort.

The store clerk, Jeremy West, has also been charged with second-degree theft, and his case is pending.

Schneider, who was jailed here Feb. 10 after his initial arrest in Moscow, had already served enough days in jail to qualify for release.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Merritt Decker said several thousand dollars were recovered from Schneider's Moscow residence after his arrest. He asked the court to order Schneider to pay $5,000 restitution with a June 28 court date set to review the amount of loss actually sustained in the alleged simulated robbery.
