1B District Nine final Saturday: Colton takes league

Trailing in the bottom of the sixth inning to Odessa at Colbert in the district semifinals, Colton scored nine runs Tuesday to take the lead, winning 15-10.

They now advance to meet Almira/Coulee/ Hartline Saturday at 4:30 p.m. for the District Nine title game (also at Northwest Christian in Colbert).

Against Odessa, in the sixth, Colton senior Reece Chadwick hit a two-out, two-strike, bases loaded triple to tie the score, before a wild pitch later gave Colton the lead.

A two-RBI double from Kelton Devlin insured the victory.

Overall, Chadwick had three hits in the game with four RBIs, while Kian Ankerson got three hits and three RBIs. Jackson Meyer and Devlin both added two hits.

Wildcats sweep Gar/Pal

Colton needed one win in a doubleheader at Garfield last Friday, May 3, to seal the Southeast 1B league championship. They got two, winning 20-4 and 9-0 over Garfield/Palouse, putting their record at 14-5 overall, 11-1 league.

On the mound, Reece Chadwick pitched the first game while Jon Bean took over for the second. In total, the two of them posted 29 strikeouts, with no walks and no earned runs.

Colton repeats as league champions, winning for the fourth time in five years. They started the season with a loss to Pomeroy, before sweeping the Pirates in a doubleheader at home April 27.

Colton then took an 11-game winning streak to Colbert Tuesday to open the district playoffs.

Wildcat seniors Chadwick, Parker Druffel and Luke Vining have started for Colton since they were eighth-graders.

In game one at Garfield, Colton got hits from Druffel, Vining, Chadwick, Kian Ankerson, Jackson Meyer, Bean and Trent Druffel. Gar/Pal got hits from Austin Jones, Riley Pedersen and L.J. Peringer.

In game two, a one-hitter for Colton's Bean, Kyle Bankus delivered the lone hit for the Vikings.

At the plate, Druffel, Vining and Bean each had hits.

Colton Alumni 15-Colton 14

In front of a big crowd May 4, a group of Colton baseball alumni took the field to play the current team, which had just clinched the 2019 Southeast 1B league title.

Chase Druffel of the alumni closed out the game on the mound, a fly ball ending it.

The current Wildcats got within a run in the bottom of the seventh when Kian Ankerson hit a one-out, two-run home run.

Alumni catcher Jake Druffel threw out a steal attempt at second base for the second out of the seventh inning.

Carter Dahmen, class of 2016, led the alumni with three RBIs. Other hits came from Grant Kinzer, Cameron Bean and Druffel.
