Judge Libey named temporary judge for SE courts

Washington State Chief Justice Mary Fairhurst April 24 appointed Superior Court Whitman County Judge Gary Libey as temporary presiding judge for Asotin, Garfield and Columbia counties. He will fill the position left vacant by Judge Scott Gallina who has been placed on administrative leave.

Judge Gallina was arrested two weeks ago at the Asotin County courthouse on allegations of sexual misconduct in an investigation conducted by the Washington State Patrol.

Judge Libey has been authorized to conduct judicial duties of the three county courts and supervise the business of the courts.

State Attorney General Robert Ferguson, who was asked to take over prosecution of the Asotin County case, has charged Gallina with second-degree rape, indecent liberties and fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.

The Garfield County courthouse is located in Pomeroy, and the Columbia County courthouse is at Dayton.
