Bulldog baseball squad finishes NE-south league run

Colfax baseball team posted two solid wins over Liberty at McDonald Park Tuesday to finish out the NE-South league race. The Bulldogs posted the pair of wins over the Lancers after being iced Saturday by two Asotin pitchers at McDonald.

The wins by the Panthers left them undefeated in league play and in the top slot for the playoff segment of the season.

Tuesday, Colfax topped Liberty 8-1 in the first game with senior hurler Kelan Becker throwing a one-hitter.

The Bulldogs scored all eight of their runs in the second inning.

Layne Gingerich doubled and singled and Eric Akesson also had two hits.

Jake Carr took the loss for Liberty, and Van Ricker rapped the lone hit for the Lancers.

In the second game, Colfax hammered 13 hits and posted a 12-1 lead after the second inning. Final score was 17-2.

Noah Beach, Riley Kimball and Logan Wilson pitched for the Lancers.

Gingerich, Nate Akessen, Blake Bodey and Mason Miller each had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Saturday, Asotin pitchers Keaton Caldwell and Devin Fry stifled Colfax bats to pick up two wins to finish off the Panthers' undefeated run on the south side.

The two games had been booked at Asotin, but they were moved to Colfax Saturday because heavy rains Friday night doused the Panthers' field in the Valley.

Fry capped the Panthers' day by throwing a no-hitter at the Bulldogs for a 6-0 shutout. Asotin totaled 11 hits in the second game.

In the first game, Caldwell held the Bulldogs to just two hits, one of them a double, for a 3-0 Asotin shutout in the first game.

Colfax pitcher Nate Akesson held Asotin to three hits in the first game. He and Bodey had the only two Colfax hits for the day.

Gingerich pitched into the sixth inning in the second game, and Isaiah Buri finished. Asotin batters laced 10 hits.
