Pullman Depot to "burn" mortgage

The executive committee of the Pullman Depot Heritage Center invites rail enthusiasts, depot restoration supporters and others to the “burning” of the mortgage this Saturday, April 27, at noon.

Officials from Columbia Bank will be present to assist in the celebration to retire the $200,000 debt used to purchase the depot from the estate of Dan Antoni in March of 2018. Thanks to the generous community support, funds have been raised to pay off the mortgage note and a portion of a second private note, enabling the committee to move forward with plans for the future Heritage Center and their goal of raising $3 million to complete the restoration of the building, grounds and two train cars.

A train horn will sound as the note is burned, rekindling memories of the many trains that came through Pullman between 1887 and 1985. Plans call for making a similar horn one of the permanent features of the restored facility.

The freight room will be open to visitors to see the current vintage quilt display, historic photos, and plans for the new Heritage Center. Tours of the facilities will be given.
