Colton-Uniontown fair set for Friday

The annual Colton-Uniontown Fair returns Friday to Colton School for a day of fitting and showing animals, home arts and still-life crafts by kindergarteners to seniors in high school.

The event, held in the ag building and parking lot of the school, begins at 8 a.m. with the opening ceremony, after concessions of coffee, hot chocolate and doughnuts. Also at 8 a.m., the FFA plant sale begins in the greenhouse along with dog showmanship in the grass outside the softball field.

Small animal fitting and showing starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by a round robin competition between each individual species winner – rabbits, chickens, cats. In the round robin, the competitors are assigned an animal from another species which they are to show. From there, an overall small animals fitting and showing champion is crowned.

At 10 a.m., large animal exhibits start with beef first, followed by hogs, sheep and goats, on the half hour.

A barbecue will be held at noon for exhibitors and family, followed by horse showmanship and the large animal round robin.

During the day, home arts, crafts and educational displays will be shown in the ag building.

The fair’s closing ceremonies are expected to take place about 4 p.m.
