Joe Miller, 81, Colfax died Monday, April 15, 2019, at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. A graveside service will be today, April 18, at 1:30 p.m. in the Colfax Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Nelson officiating.

Born Sept. 4, 1937, in Colfax to A.S. and Evelyn Erwin Miller, he grew up in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School, where he competed in boxing and football and was an FFA member in 1956. He attended college in Portland here he completed his associate's degree and returned to Dusty where he farmed with his dad for several years.

For many years, he operated Whitman Rock & Construction near Colfax. In 1981, Joe moved to Nevada and operated his rock crusher at several construction sites around the state for many years. For the last 15 years, he worked for Southern Oregon Rock near Medford. He returned to Dusty and the farm about a year ago. He had a lifelong love of fast cars, motorcycles and drag races. Joe and his significant other, Marlo Hale, traveled to Chico, Calif., to the World of Outlaws sprint car races.

Surviving are Marlo, Dusty; children, Jack Miller, Portland, Ore., Kathy (Denny) Rainey of Arizona, Lori Jo (Vic) Roberts of Kennewick, and Lance (Annette) Miller, Colfax; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
