Colville tops Bulldogs in McDonald opener

Baseball finally happened at McDonald Park Tuesday with Colville's team making the trip south to play the Bulldogs in a non-league round. The game marked the de facto start of a home season after two prior home dates were scratched while the McDonald turf shed the snow and dried out.

Colville topped Colfax 11-6 in the Tuesday non-leaguer to end a string of five wins by the Bulldogs over NE foes. The string included four NE south side wins with two over Ritzville at WSU and two over Reardan in contests which were moved to Wisner Field at LaCrosse Friday to get out of the rain which clobbered Colfax.

Colville, a NE-A school, unloaded for six runs in the second inning and four more in the fourth inning on the way to the win. They added one more in the sixth.

Each team had seven hits in the non-leaguer, but Colville booked three extra-base hits.

Blake Bodey started on the mound for Colfax and sustained the loss. Coach Scott Parrish used Kelan Becker, Layne Gingerich and Kolby Sisk to finish out the seven-frame game. Grant Michaliszyn tripled and singled for the visitors, and Tayeb Wilson and Johnny Knight doubled.

Kolby Sisk, Gingerich, Nate Akesson, Bodey, Eric Akesson and Evan Henning had the hits for Colfax.

Friday at LaCrosse, Becker allowed one hit in the opener when the Bulldogs posted an 11-1 win over Reardan in five innings. Becker struck out six Reardan batters.

Colfax had eight hits with Henning, Kit Hockett and Gingerich each tagging a double.

Sophomore pitcher Gingerich threw a no-hitter at the Indians in the second game. He fanned six Reardan batters and hit one, the only Reardan runner to get on base.

Colfax had six hits in the second game, with five of them going for extra bases. Nate Akesson had two doubles, and Mason Miller hit a triple. Hockett and Isaiah Buri each hit a double.

Now 6-2 on the season, Colfax is scheduled to play in the Kittitas tournament Saturday with a first game slated against Toledo.

Their next appearance at McDonald will be next Friday when they host Liberty for a league double.
