Patty Lou Cook Myott

A memorial service for Patty Lou Cook Myott, 90, will be at the Palouse Federated Church on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. It will be followed by a time of fellowship.

A private burial was at the Palouse Greenwood Cemetery Wednesday, April 3.

She died March 28, 2019, at Glenhaven Adult home in Pullman.

Born on Feb. 6, 1929, in Pine Camp, Neb., she was the second child born to Zelda Stewart and Kenneth Cook. She started school at the age of five and graduated in 1946 from Keya Paha County High School at age 17 and went directly to Chadron State College for three months to earn a teaching certificate. She taught one year in a one-room schoolhouse in western Nebraska. That summer while on holiday in Lewiston she met Arthur Neil Myott. They were married Jan. 1, 1948. Their marriage lasted a few weeks shy of 67 years when he died in December of 2015.

They moved to Palouse in 1951. After Neil retired in 1990, she began a cleaning service and at one point was responsible for cleaning all three Palouse churches and the town post office.

She was practically a legend when it comes to huckleberry jello salad, thriftiness, short pencils, homemade bread and chili, knowing the proper way to do things, frozen lunch meat, Miracle Whip, and lettuce sandwiches and burning the "midnight oil."

Surviving are her children Carol (Jim), Palouse, Wash .; Larry (Maria), Eugene, Ore .; Don (Teresa), Palouse; Kelly (Paul), Pullman and Julie; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and siblings Colleen, Laramie, Wyo .; Ferrell "Pete" (Patsy) Lewiston; Janice, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Tim (Janice), Springview, Neb .; Verlin "Tony" (Joyce), Rapid City, S.D .; Carlyle "Buz" (Beverly), Springview, Neb., and Linda (Eddie), Sherwood, Ark.
