Local robotics teams will compete at West Valley

March 21, 2019

Pictured from left to right: Team 4061's drive team players Will Cole, Alec Klaveano and Ben Hoiland at last weekend's SunDome tournament in Yakima. The SciBorgs worked through some wiring, coding and camera challenges and finished fifth. Team 4061 also received the PNW District event's Gracious Professionalism Award for always being helpful to other teams who need parts, coding or, in one case, help to build the robot when the team arrived with just the kit of parts.

This Friday and Saturday, March 22-23, 30 high school robotics teams from around the northwest will compete at West Valley High School for this year's challenge, "Destination Deep Space," presented by Boeing.

Each team designs and builds a 120-pound robot, which they use in matches against the others – the robots maneuver to place balls and disks into slots and climb a platform on an arena game field. Teams must fix problems along the way.

Admission is free.

The Sciborgs, a 4H Palouse Area Robotics Team, and the VIKotics team of Garfield/Palouse will be among the teams competing.
