Peter Lazzarini

For over 70 years, Pete Lazzarini lived life to the very fullest. A vast community of friends, neighbors and family were heartbroken when he left us suddenly on February 19, 2019, at Whitman Hospital in Colfax. A celebration of Pete's fast and furious life will be on Friday, March 1st, at 5:00 pm at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds Community Building.

Peter Alan "Pete" Lazzarini was born December 18, 1948, in Martinez, California, to Peter and Kathleen Caudel Lazzarini. Pete was the youngest of three children growing up with older sisters Aldeen and Arleen in the Port Chicago area. He graduated from Pacifica High School in 1967, and attended junior college in Mount Diablo, California, for a couple of years. Pete then transferred to Washington State University where he completed his bachelor's degree in business while playing defensive end for the Cougars.

Upon graduation, Pete stayed in Pullman, working for several years in the construction field. Pete loved playing community softball and basketball, soaking in the camaraderie and the competition. Pete completed lineman school and went to work for Avista in 1987, the same year that he married his best friend, Donna Strating. Pete and Donna made their home in Pullman for a few years before moving to Colfax with their infant daughter, Sadie, in 1990.

In 2004, the family moved to Elberton while also enjoying trips to Hells Canyon and time at their cabin on the St. Joe River. For Pete, there wasn't anything more enjoyable than oaring the boat for Sadie while she fished. Back home, Pete kept busy with big projects and lots of heavy machinery. Pete loved anything with a motor as witnessed by his shop full of toys including an airplane, four wheelers, boats, a bucket truck and jeeps for off-roading. In 2010, Pete retired after 25 years of service with Avista, giving him even more time to pursue the things he loved; fishing, hunting, flying, camping and boating. With Donna at his side, Pete enjoyed great times with family and friends. As you can imagine, the stories are endless and most of them are true. Pete had no regrets in life as he pursued every adventure he ever dreamed and he was so looking forward to the birth of his new granddaughter.

Pete will be missed by so many in our community, especially his wife of 32 years, Donna; two daughters from a previous marriage, Cherine and Shana Lazzarini; and granddaughter, Taryn, all from Battle Ground, Washington; daughter, Sadie Lazzarini of Hayden, Idaho; two sisters, Aldeen Phipps of Redding, California, and Arleen Mattson of Boise, Idaho. Pete was preceded in death by his parents. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. On-line guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com.

Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is caring for the family.
