Colfax wrestlers take sixth-place in state all-B tourney at Tacoma Dome

Colfax wrestlers placed sixth Saturday in the State Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome with 101 points in the all-B division. Tonasket topped the Bs with 348 points, and Reardan, a team Colfax topped in the Pomeroy sub-regional, placed one notch ahead of Colfax with 140 points for fifth place.

Senior Augie Allenbach, who advanced to the semi-final round, placed third in the 220 class to lead the Bulldogs. Allenbach booked a 4-1 mark at the tournament to collect 23 team points for the Bulldogs.

Sutton Moon, the Kalama wrestler who topped Allenbach with a three-point margin score in the semi, went on to take the title at 220.

Other placers for Colfax were Kolby Sisk, fifth in the 113 class, and Jacob Brown, fifth in the 182 pound class.

Coach Dennis Gransbery noted Allenbach came within about five seconds to pinning Moon in the semi-final. Moon, who took the win at 8-5, was put on his back by Allenbach when the time expired.

Colfax rated 16th in the meet’s pin efficiency bracket among all 368 teams in all divisions. The rating is compiled for the number of pins in the shortest amount of time.

Among all the B school teams, Jacob Brown in the 182 class topped all wresters in booking the five pins in the shortest amount of time on his way to a fifth-place finish.

Colfax at last year’s mat classic placed 19th among the 42 B teams with 25.5 points. Travis Knauff of Garfield/Palouse was with the Colfax contingent last year, but the 18 points he earned for a third-place finish was split out for the Gar/Pal team placing which was 26th.

Tonasket also was the title team last year with 184.5, and Reardan, the NE dominator, totaled 141.

Gransbery noted the big Tonasket team managed to put two finalists in most of the weight classes.
