Sunnyside School evacuation

Sunnyside Elementary in Pullman was closed early Thursday morning by a suspected gas leak. Students from Sunnyside were evacuated to Lincoln Middle School.

A Pullman fire crew and an Avista crew checked the building and determined gas was not leaking in the building. The odor was believed to have been caused be the cold weather, which dropped temperature down to below zero early Thursday morning, causing an exhaust vent to freeze up.

Students were transported back to Sunnyside, and classes resumed at approximately 10 a.m....
