Senior Bryan Rubin goes up for two points for the Bulldogs in front of Van Ricker.

Colfax boys will travel to West Valley today to play the LRS Broncos in the second round of the 12-team district tournament, which offers three slots to the state regional round and a possible ticket to the state 2B tournament in Spokane.

The Bulldog boys enter the district fray today after rolling past the Liberty Lancers 56-44 Friday in the new gym at Liberty. The win put the Bulldogs on top of the NE-south campaign with a 9-1 record. Their lone league loss came to Tekoa/Rosalia in a first-round clash at the Tekoa gym.

The Broncos, number five finisher on the north side, advanced to tonight's game with a 54-49 win over Kettle Falls in the Tuesday opener at West Valley. Tonight's game is a quarter-final round, and the winners will advance to the semi-final next Tuesday.

Colfax has been booked into the West Valley show opposite St. George's, the number-one team on the north side. Barring possible derailments, the two champs could hook up in the title game.

The playoff format awards both teams in the title game the first two tickets to the regionals.

Friday night in the new gym at Liberty, the Bulldogs and the Lancers locked up in a battle for the first quarter. Colfax staked a 13-9 after the first frame with Hunter Claassen hitting a three-point shot to cap the quarter.

Liberty came back for a brief 13-13 tie at the start of the second frame, but Colfax began to take control.

Carson Cloaninger, who hit four three-pointers for the game, hit two of them in the second frame and the Bulldogs finished with a 28-18 lead at the half.

The scoring was even for the third quarter, but the Bulldogs kept the margin and finished up the win.

Cloaninger finished with 22 points, and senior Bryan Rubin, who found shooting space when the Lancers packed on Cloaninger, finished with 12. Kelan Becker, also a senior, hit nine.

A big part of the Colfax win came on turnovers and rebounds. The Bulldogs limited the Lancers to single-shots on most of the trips down the court.
