Well Child founder to speak at Selbu

Pastor Michael Birnbaum, founder of Well Child International, will lead worship and share his ministry at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Selbu Church. Birnbaum founded Well Child International to bring healthcare to moms and children in developing countries. As part of their outreach, Well Child also presents the Gospel to the participants.

Pastor Birnbaum will show pictures and share stories about this ministry. He is currently part-time pastor at Living Word Lutheran Church in Kingman, Ariz. Birnbaum has two married sons in Seattle and one son and wife with four grandchildren in Clayton, 28 miles north of Spokane.

Tea party class at Dahmen barn

Chef Lindsey Joy Smith, also known as “The Chipper Chef,” will present an English tea party culinary class Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Dahmen Barn. Participants will create blueberry lemon scones, sticky toffee fairy cakes, bacon feta quiche, tea sandwiches, fresh butter and sugared cranberries. After the preparation of these delicious foods, they will dine on their culinary creations.

Fancy hats, pearls and English accents are optional.

Smith a few years ago fulfilled a lifelong dream and attended The Edinburgh New Town Cookery School in Scotland. She is looking forward to presenting her first class at the barn.

The class will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Class fee is $50.

'Cabaret' to open Feb. 14 at RTOP

Regional Theatre of the Palouse will present "Cabaret" Feb. 14 to 24. Set in early 1930’s Berlin, Germany, with rising social-political unrest, a local cabaret, the Kit Kat Klub, becomes a center for avant-garde culture and theatrical misfits of the Roaring Twenties.

RTOP’s production of Cabaret is produced by executive director John Rich. The show is directed by Michael Todd, with Kimberly McDowell as music director and choreography by Berit Preece.

Cabaret Show Dates: Feb. 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 at 7:30 p.m .; Saturdays, Feb. 16 and 23 at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Sundays, Feb. 17 and 24 at 1:30 p.m.

Jazz festival seeks volunteers

The University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is seeking volunteers to fill a variety of roles for this year’s festival, Feb. 22-23. Greeting guests, managing competition sites and driving artists and educators to locations around town are among the assignments.

The two-day event will host thousands of student performers from across the region who will compete and attend educational sessions on the U of I campus.

Volunteers can earn one evening concert ticket for every four hours of service, including training and orientation meetings.

Athenaeum Club

At the Feb. 1 meeting, Sharon Helmick presented information about Arches National Park in Utah. The unique geological formations in this park, more than 2,000 sandstone arches on 76,000 acres, were of special curiosity and interest to the group.

The meeting was hosted by Judy Moore at The Center and included homemade cookies, breads and candy.

Next meeting will be Feb. 15.
