The Hospital Foundation honored Whitman Medical Group last Saturday for its three decades of service to the hospital and surrounding communities. Pharmacist and foundation board president Mark Johnson presented Dr. Kim Mellor with a plaque and recognition during the group's annual dinner and auction on Jan. 26.
Johnson said the Foundation recognized the uncommonly good working relationship between patients and doctors with the hospital to provide excellent care in a rural setting.
More than 150 guests attended the auction at Hill-Ray Plaza in Colfax to raise more than $28,000.
Foundation board treasurer Terry Eng told the crowd earlier in the evening their endowment is now $5 million, which rivals big city hospital finances.
The Whitman Hospital Foundation was designated as a non-profit entity in 1989 at the urging of then Hospital Administrator Gordon Mclean.
