Colfax girls add 2 wins, bow again to Broncos

Colfax girls advanced their record to 6-2 in the NE-South race with two wins and one loss in the second round. The Bulldogs topped Tekoa/Rosalia 70 -36 Tuesday night on the home court.

They stopped a determined Asotin team 61-52 on the home boards Friday night, but were stopped 55-47 Saturday by the Broncos at Ritzville.

The Broncos also topped Colfax in the first league round at Colfax.

Tuesday on the home boards, Colfax and the TR girls waged a close battle in the first quarter. Colfax had a two-point edge after the first frame, but the Bulldogs opened a 31-20 gap at the half and finished with 23 in the last quarter for a 70-36 win.

Kierstyn York led Colfax with 17 points, and Emily Kramer topped the Timberwolves with 15.

Saturday at Ritzville, Colfax again hit the wall in the last quarter. They went into the fourth trailing by a point, 30-40, but added just eight more in the final frame while the Broncos stacked 16

Linnea Schafer cooked 18 points for the hosts.

Asher Cai led Colfax with 20.

Friday against Asotin, Colfax bagged the 61-52 win with a 20-point surge in the last quarter.

Asotin posted a 27-26 lead at the half, but Colfax had a run after the half with Kierstyn York dropping a pair of 3-pointers. The game tied at 29-29 and Colfax notched a 41-37 lead at the end of the third with Skylre Sakamoto-Howell hitting a three-pointer.

The win closed with Taylre Sakamoto-Howell running a 6-6 from the toss line to fend off a frantic Panther charge.

Adrienne Washington, who had trouble hitting in the first half, finished with 20 points for the Panthers including a perfect 10-10 off the toss line.
