January 24, 2019

Oakesdale's Logan Reed, Julie Baljo and Lizzy Perry go through the line to congratulate Pomeroy after a 61-40 home loss Jan. 18

The Colton girls picked up two more dominant wins in the Southeast 1B league last week to extend their record to 8-0, 13-2 overall.

In the second meeting of two league teams which played in the state title game last year (Colton won) and returned most of their players, the Wildcats again put down any suggestion this year would be different.

They won 58-31 at Pomeroy.

Leading by seven at halftime, Colton opened the second quarter with a 16-3 run and took it from there.

Dakota Patchen scored 24 points, including six three-pointers while Emily Schultheis delivered 11 points and Jordyn Moehrle nine points and five assists. Josie Schultheis had 10 rebounds.

The loss dropped Pomeroy to 14-2, 7-2.

Emma Severs led the Pirates with 17 points while Maddy Dixon had 11 rebounds.

In December, Colton beat Pomeroy at home by 22 points.

St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse 34-Garfield/Palouse 30

The Eagles went to Palouse Jan. 20 and pulled out of a fourth-place tie with Gar/Pal in a win over the Vikings. Riley Lamb and Roxy Dickerson both scored nine points for S.J.E.L.

Kenzi Pedersen led Gar/Pal with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jaden Askins scored nine.

Colton 60-Garfield/Palouse 12

Playing at Colton Jan. 18, the Wildcats allowed two field goals in a league win over Gar/Pal. Dakota Patchen led with 17 points while Abby Kelly had nine. Kenzie Pedersen led Gar/Pal with nine points.

Pomeroy 61-Oakesdale 40

Oakesdale took on second-place Pomeroy for the second time this season and lost by a similar margin.

"We don't match up with them well," said Nighthawks coach Dan Brown. "We're losing to Pomeroy by more than we're losing to Colton."

Oakesdale 53-Odessa 34

On the road for a non-league matchup Jan. 15, Oakesdale won at Odessa as Logan Reed scored 25 points and Lizzie Perry 20. Julie Baljo and LouEllen Reed were the next highest scorers, each with four.

Oakesdale 75-Prescott 19

Leading scorer and rebounder Logan Reed was out sick and did not make the trip to Prescott Jan. 19 but the Nighthawks had little problem. Lizzy Perry and Kaylee Hinnenkamp both scored 20 points, and LouEllen Reed had 16 as Oakesdale held in third place in the Southeast 1B league with two weekends left to play. If they beat St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse and Garfield/Palouse in the coming days – both for a second time -- Oakesdale will secure third place for the league playoffs.

THIS WEEK:

St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse plays Friday at Colton, Garfield/Palouse travels to Touchet and Oakesdale has a bye. On Saturday, Jan. 26, S.J.E.L. plays at home against Prescott and Colton goes to Oakesdale. Garfield/Palouse has a bye.
