The Commoner, Jan. 5, 1894

Contractor J. W. Janney Saturday morning completed the temporary bridge over the river near the Colfax brewery. The location is about 200 yards north of the site of the bridge which was washed away in the late flood. The structure is 16 feet wide, and 125 feet long. It is a truss bridge, and will be a great benefit to the farmers until a new bridge can be built.

W. L. Horton has completed the improvements of the bridge at the fair grounds which was damaged in the late flood. It was badly torn on the approaches and bent down the middle. Mr. Horton built a 40-foot iron span approach on the north side, raised the bridge 25 inches in the center and covered the whole structure in galvanized iron.

Whitman County Gazette, Jan. 6, 1994

A New Year's storm that dumped up to two inches of rain on portions of the county caused over-flowing ditches on county roads, at least one mudslide and flooding in Colfax. Road damages from the storm closed Mader Road to heavy traffic, and other county roads are being evaluated in a day-to-day basis.
