Doctors threat misdemeanor conviction

Johnathan Bain, 47, Potlatch, pleaded guilty in superior court Friday morning to a reduced charge of misdemeanor harassment and was sentenced 364 days in jail with all but seven days suspended. He was credited with the seven days spent in jail after his arrest.

Bain was charged with making threats Oct. 31 against a physician at Pullman Family Medicine. The charge alleged Bain was upset because a claim he filed with the Department of Labor and Industries had been denied.

The alleged threat had been relayed to the medical office by an L & I department representative.

Defense Attorney Steve Martonick said they believed parts of the account which was relayed by the D & I representative to the medical office could be considered ambiguous.

The Pullman Police report said they contacted the doctor and other personnel at the medical office who stated they believed the threat reports were valid.

Bain in court Friday denied he ever made the threats against the doctor, but he vowed to avoid any contact with the alleged victim.

The court issued an order for Bain to have no contact with the victim for two years. He was also ordered to pay $600 in fines and fees.
