Wins, losses for Oakesdale, Colton

The Oakesdale boys went to the Reardan tournament Dec. 27-28 and lost in the first round to the hosts.

Reardan led by four points at halftime, then by one at the end of the third quarter before Oakesdale took a two-point lead with three minutes left in the game. Struggling to score after that, they soon had to foul and the Gorillas made free throws, winning 49-41.

Evan Henning led Oakesdale with 12 points while Jacob Himes scored nine.

After the first-round loss, Oakesdale dropped into the consolation bracket and dominated the Eagles. Kieron Anderson scored 18 points while Ryan Henning had nine, the Nighthawks pushing their record to 6-4 overall, 4-0 in league. It was the second time they played St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse this season.

“I think it was good for our guys to get some games in over the break,” said Oakesdale coach Carl Crider.

Aside from games, and days off for Christmas, Oakesdale has practiced at 8 a.m.

“The incentive is to hopefully make people go to bed early,” said Crider.

His team will play next on Friday at home against Genesee followed by a Southeast 1B league matchup at Colton (6-4, 2-1) Saturday.

“I think we definitely haven’t peaked yet,” Crider said.

Colton 63, Davenport 53

Colton traveled to Spokane Valley Dec. 27 to open the Eagle Holiday Classic with a win over 2B Davenport. Parker Druffel led with 35 points – including no three-pointers – while Reece Chadwick scored 20.

“We’re working down low, trying to attack the basket more, getting closer, higher-percentage shots,” said Colton coach Nick Simons. “Our quality of possessions are there.”

The win advanced them to play 2B Lake Roosevelt the next night.

Lake Roosevelt 70, Colton 49

In the last game of the Eagle Holiday Classic in Spokane Valley, Colton lost 70-49, opening the game trailing 22-9. Reece Chadwick led with 25 points while Parker Druffel added 10.

“I could see Lake Roosevelt making a deep run into state,” Simons said.

THIS WEEK

Garfield/Palouse (5-5, 3-0) plays at home twice this weekend, on Friday against Touchet and Saturday against non-league Troy. Colton plays at St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse (St. John) Friday followed by their home game against Oakesdale Saturday.
