Colton edges Wahkiakum to extend winning streak

The final of the Colton Christmas tournament was a present.

The No. 1-ranked RPI girls team in Washington from 1B met the No. 1 for 2B and it came down to the last possession.

Colton (8-0, 3-0) won 56-54 over Wahkiakum (9-1, 1-0) after the Mules missed a reverse lay-up with seven seconds left. The Wildcats came down with the rebound and ran out the clock.

Emily Schultheis scored 17 points to lead Colton while Jordyn Moehrle and Dakota Patchen each had 16. Moehrle scored 13 of her points in the second half.

Macie Elliott led Wahkiakum with 17 points.

Garfield/Palouse 35, Asotin 33

The Viking girls won the consolation prize at the Colton Christmas tournament when Asotin’s last shot dropped out at the buzzer.

Freshman Kenzi Pedersen led Gar/Pal with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

For the 2B Panthers, Kylan Hernandez scored 21 points and Adrienne Washington had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Colton 61, Asotin 29

Rylee Vining’s seven three-pointers led Colton as Jordyn Moehrle delivered seven points, eight assists and six rebounds. Dakota Patchen scored 15 points, Maggie Pluid got 10 rebounds and Abby Kelly added eight points in the first-day win of the Colton Christmas tournament.

The Wildcats advanced to play Wahkiakum in the final.

Wahkiakum 40, Garfield/Palouse 27

Kenzi Pedersen led Gar/Pal by scoring 20 of its 27 points in a first-round loss at the Colton Christmas tournament. She also added 12 rebounds as Gar/Pal lost to the 2B team from Cathlamet, Wash.

Oakesdale 43, Genesee 37

Playing at Genesee Dec. 21, Logan Reed led the Nighthawks with 18 points and Lizzy Perry had 10 to put Oakesdale’s record at 7-1, 3-1 on the year going into a break for Christmas.

Bailey Leseman led Genesee with 15 points.

THIS WEEK

The Colton girls were set to play next on Dec. 27 at West Valley High School in Spokane – against 2B Davenport. Garfield/Palouse (6-4, 1-3) will play on Jan. 4 at Touchet followed by a trip to Troy the next night.
