1B boys basketball: Vikings beat Colton again

The Garfield/Palouse boys blew out Colton for the second time in just over a week, Dec. 22, this time in the consolation round of the Wildcats’ Christmas tournament.

Ely Hawkins scored 16 points and 10 rebounds while Tanner Anderson added 13 points, six rebounds and four steals in the 68-42 win. Caden Sanderson, another Gar/Pal senior, added 12 points, helping push the Vikings’ lead in the second half.

Parker Druffel scored 17 points for Colton in the loss while Reece Chadwick had 14.

The Vikings (5-5, 3-0) beat the Wildcats (5-3, 2-1) at home Dec. 14 by a score of 73-29.

In the Colton tournament’s final, Asotin handled Wahkiakum 57-37.

Asotin 61, Garfield/Palouse 54

Former Colton coach Seth Paine visited the Wildcats’ gym Friday, Dec. 21, this time at the helm for Asotin in the Colton Christmas tournament. The 2B Panthers took the win over Garfield/Palouse with five Asotin players scoring in double digits. For the Vikings, Ely Hawkins scored 16 points, Tanner Anderson 15 and Blake Jones 11.

Wahkiakum 54, Colton 53

With under a minute left on the clock, Colton senior Parker Druffel downed a three-pointer to put his team up by a point against the Mules in the opener of the Wildcats’ tournament.

Wahkiakum followed with a last-seconds lay-in by Luke Brown to leave the Wildcats with just a half-courter of a chance to win. The shot bounced off the backboard.

Reece Chadwick led Colton with 25 points while Druffel scored 20.

The Mules advanced to meet Asotin in the final the next day while Colton dropped to the consolation bracket to meet Garfield/Palouse.

THIS WEEK

Oakesdale (5-3, 4-0) will play Reardan Friday, Dec. 28, in the first-round of the four-team 73rd annual Lions Club Christmas Time tournament in Reardan. Gametime is 2 p.m.

The St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse boys will play Inchelium Friday at the Reardan tournament Dec. 28. Gametime is 7:15 p.m. The bracket includes the Eagles, Reardan, Oakesdale and Inchelium.

Garfield/Palouse plays next at home Jan. 4 against Touchet. Also Jan. 4, Colton will play at S.J.E.L. (St. John).
