Rodeo stock appears at Vegas finals

Last week, while Walter Riley was in the mountains rounding up cows and calves, some of the Flying Five and Big Bend rodeo stock were in Las Vegas for the National Rodeo Finals. They had one bull, Beer Barrel, and bucking horses Spring Planting, Huckleberry, Broken Springs, Cool Toddy and Blue Feather, plus two others in both the bareback and saddle bronc events.

Recently, Sandy Passmore and Karen Broeckel met with Cheryl Gunselman, Manuscripts Manager from the WSU Holland Library Special Collections, and handed over the Dusty B.B. Club scrapbooks and club information from the beginning of the club in 1927 to the present for safe keeping in a controlled environment at WSU, where it will be available for research or other enjoyable reading.

Friday evening’s Dusty B.B. Club community Christmas party in the parish hall of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colfax was well attended. The evening began with a potluck dinner and proceeded with singing, performances by some of the member’s children, a secret Santa exchange by some of the members and a visit by Santa and Rudolph.

Linda Hennigar, Diane Monson, Lorraine Scaggs and several other women attended a small get-together at the home of Judi Overstreet in Colfax Monday.

Ed and Joan Broeckel spent the weekend in Boise with daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Dom Lavotti, for an early Christmas. They attended a semi-pro hockey game between a Boise team and one from Kansas. The Broeckels returned home Monday.

Country Bible Church will hold a worship service Saturday evening, Dec. 22, and all are welcome to attend. The candlelight service will begin at 5 p.m. with a special message by Pastor Steve Szasz. Regular Sunday morning services on Dec. 23 are cancelled, giving the congregation an opportunity to visit other churches. A special speaker is scheduled for the following Sunday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m.

Selbu Lutheran Church is having a Christmas Eve service beginning at 4 p.m. It will be a special time of music and readings of the Christmas story. Everyone is welcome. There will be coffee and Christmas goodies to share while visiting with friends after the service.
