Both Bulldog teams bag cross-country state tickets; Merritt extends win string

Both Colfax boys and girls teams placed second Saturday in the regional qualifier on the Harrington Golf Course to win team entries into the state all-B race at Sun Willows Golf course Saturday in Pasco.

Colfax boys finished with 95 points behind the 52 win stacked by Asotin, and the Bulldog girls totaled 72 behind the 39 total by Asotin. The Panthers had three finishers in the top 10.

Gavin Merritt of Tekoa/Rosalia continued his win string with a 16:58 clocking over the tough Harrington race course which had repeat grades in the 5,000 meter loop. Easton Pomrankey of Kettle Falls again finished second back of the Rosalia senior with a 17:26 clocking, and Eli Engledow led the Asotin team with a third-place finish just 12 seconds back of the Kettle sophomore.

Ryley Griffiths led Colfax with a 17:41 for fourth place and Kolby Slate finished 12th at 18:04.

Kettle's Mya Edwards clocked 20:02 for a 15-second win over Asotin's Chloe Overberg on the girls side.

Colfax freshman Anna Cocking placed fourth at 20:59, and junior Miya Ensley finished 12th at 22:00. Tayma Vanek was 15th at 22:21.

Other boys teams in the top four were Wilbur-Creston 96 and Northwest Christian at 105.

Other team qualifiers for the girls were Kettle Falls at 77 and Republic at 92.

St. John/Endicott girls finished in fifth at 108.

Other finishers for the Colfax boys were Evan Henning, 18th at 18:31; Josh Huber, 36th at 19:00; Dyamin Vanek, 41st at 19:14; Carson Cloaninger, 47th at 19:21, and Tyler Bober, 65th at 20:29.

Other finishers for the girls were Madison Dingman, 27th at 23:10; Madeline Tate, 53rd at 27:40, Emma Miller, 55th at 27:45, and Abigael Lobell, 58th at 28:26.

Tekoa/Rosalia's Issac Leighton qualified for an individual ticket at 14th with a time of 18:11, and Dawson Dugger of the Vikings qualified at 17th with a time of 18:19.

On the girls side, Anais Mills of Garfield/Palouse pegged a state ticket with a ninth-place finish at 21:37. Catherine Treis of SJEL made the state field at 13th with a of 22:12, and Trinity Bingaman of TR won a state ticket with a 16th finish at 22:27.

Other county finishers for girls, Lauren Stubbs-SJEL, 24th at 23:05; Ellie Tollett-SJEL 28th at 23:25; Marianne Treis-SJEL, 44th at 26:27; Jessica Olson-GP, 46th at 26:32; Lillian Shaw-Sands-TR, 60th 28:56; Kaelyn Olson-TR, 63rd 30:03; Guinevere Richmond-SJEL, 66th at 31:10; Josalyn Peters-TR, 67th at 31:10; Olivia Knauff-GP, 68th at 34:46.

Trinity Bingaman of the Timberwolves finishes in 16th place to qualify for a state start.

Other county finishers for boys were Jaeden Norwood-TR, 57th at 19:50; Domonic Treis-SJEL, 62nd at 20:24; Zane Neill-TR, 63rd at 20:27.01; Ethan Cook-GP, 64th at 2:27.48; Logan Diets-GP, 67th at 20:37; Danny Laughary-GP. 69th at 21:08; Max Lundberg -SJEL, 72nd at 21:20.2; Pedro Molina-SJEL, 73rd at 21:20.51; Brandon Hallan-GP, 83rd at 23;42; Gabrial Morgan-TR, 84th at 24:02; Tucker Thompson-SJEL, 86th at 24:56; Bryce Casey-TR, 92nd at 28:53; Christian Burt-GP, 92nd at 30;03.
