It begins to look as if the assignee of the Palouse Mill Company will hardly sell the company's property this year, if at all. A hard legal fight is being waged by shareholders and creditors of the corporation against the sale, and an interesting return battle is being given.

The Colfax Commoner, Oct. 18, 1918

Ben Kammerzall fired three shots into the legs and body of John C. Heidinger early Wednesday afternoon and the injured man is now at the hospital and may lose one of his legs. His right leg from his ankle to his knee must contain no less than a hundred number-five shot, and the wounds extend from the ankle to the top of his shoulders. When the man stripped in the doctor's office his body looked like he had an eruption of smallpox. Ben Kammerzall fired three loads of shots at the injured man and the large quantity of the shot from the three loads entered the man's body. The last load fired entered the right leg and Heidinger fell over in the road. The injured man was picked up off the road by C.J. Ochs and taken to Ochs' home where he remained for more than an hour.

Mrs. Ochs insisted that the injured man be taken to Colfax and it was nearly five o'clock when the two men reached this city. Heidinger spent more than an hour limping around town and it was nearly 7 o'clock before he consented to go to a doctor's office for examination. The statements made by the two men after they reached Colfax indicated that all three men had been drinking.

Whitman County's first juvenile court hearings as the result of the 10 o'clock curfew resolution adopted recently by the commissioners was held Saturday morning when six boys and two girls, all older than 15 and younger than 18, appeared before Superior Judge M.E. Jesseph.

The Colfax Gazette, Oct. 17, 1968

A plan to revamp the Colfax Bulldog athletic field at Schmuck Park was presented to the Colfax School Board Monday night by Jack Reynolds and Harlan Brannan. The project would cost approximately $35,000, Reynolds told the directors.

Whitman County was informed Monday it would be denied an extension of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women (OVW.) Two years ago, the county received $339,416 from OVW's Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Order Program. That money was distributed to enforce and prosecute domestic violence cases and also funded victims' advocates.
