Myrtle Mae Snyder

Myrtle Mae Eckhart Hawk Snyder passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ October 19, 2018.

Mae was born to John and Julia Davis Eckhart November 11, 1923, in Colfax, Wash. She was the great-granddaughter of Cashup Davis, a pioneering family who came to Whitman County from Petaluma, Calif., by covered wagon. She grew up in Oakesdale on the family farm and graduated from Oakesdale High School in 1941. She married Glenn Butler Hawk on Christmas Day 1941 and they farmed in that area until his death, Oct. 2, 1965. Mae then moved to Spokane and later married James Bruce Snyder in August 1968.

Mae was a wonderful farm wife making a house a home to many during harvest, cooking, working in the fields etc. She loved and was greatly loved by her family extending in later years to 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Art Eckhart; son-in-law, Fred Williams; and one great-grandchild; along with her first husband, Glenn; and later her husband of 32 years, James Snyder.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (Sheila) of Mica, Wash., and Steve (Sharon) along with a daughter, Sharon Williams, both of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, John Eckhart of Boise and Bill Eckhart of Riverside, Calif.

Graveside services were held on Friday, October 26 at the Oakesdale Cemetery.
