Painting starts on Codger sign in Colfax

Sole' Farr of Albion, proprietor of Elegance Painting, started work on painting the wooden sign in northwest corner of Codger Pole Park Monday. The sign was carved by wood sculptor Jonathan LeBenne as a tribute after the 1988 Codger Bowl.

Farr noted the sign is made of cedar 4x4s which are encased in a metal frame. He said while preparing the surface he discovered primer was not used when the sign was originally painted.

Farr is the same painter who worked on the Plymouth-UCC Church, which features an early metal sculpture done by the late Harold Balazs of Spokane.

Weather permitting, Farr aims to finish the painting project by the end of the week.
