Vanek, Merritt win on St. John course

Tayma Vanek of Colfax won the girls cross country race Tuesday at the St. John Golf Course, and Gavin Merritt of Tekoa/Rosalia extended his string of wins in the boys race.

Merritt clocked 16:53 on the course for a 35-second edge over Eli Engledow of Asotin clocking 17:28.

Josh Huber was the first finisher for Colfax with an 18:04 for third place.

Vanek and Anna Cocking of Colfax finished 1-2 in the girls race with Vanek clocking 22:34 and Cocking 22:35.

Catherine Treis of host SJEL finished in third place, 14 seconds back at 22:49.
