RTOP to present 'The King & I'

Regional Theatre of the Palouse will present "The King and I," opening Aug. 16. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s romanticized musical is based on the real-life events of Anna Leonowens, a British governess hired as an English teacher by the King of Siam in the early 1860’s.

In order to authentically showcase the intricate beauty of historical Siamese culture, the show features traditional masks, head dresses and fabrics shipped directly from Thailand.

Performances will be at the RTOP Theatre, 122 N. Grand Ave., Pullman. Admission is $20. Tickets are available by calling 334-0750 or contacting http://www.rtoptheatre.org.

Show dates are Aug. 16 and 17, 7:30 p.m .; Aug.18 and 19, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m .; Aug. 22, 23 and 24, 7:30 p.m .: Aug. 25, 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 26, 1:30 p.m.

Aging mastery class now taking signups

Registration for the fall series of Aging Master Program at Pullman Regional Hospital is now open. The 10-week series is designed to assist seniors make and maintain small but impactful changes in their lives. It will begin Friday, Aug. 17, and continues weekly at the hospital from 12:40 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The cost for all 10 sessions is $30 or $5 per session. Seating is limited. Call 509-336-7404 to register or go online to Eventbrite.com.

The course was developed by the National Council on Aging and is offered by the Center for Learning & Innovation at Pullman Regional Hospital.

SJ library slates water safety class

Adults and teens are invited to register for a library-sponsored water safety class at the St. John Pool at 10 a.m. Aug 16. Shannon Ward, a certified marine safety educator, will cover seven steps to survival, safe boating/water practices and handling an emergency.

A pool portion is included during which participants can try out personal flotation devices and practice water survival techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring personal flotation devices for inspection and tips on usage.
