Riding the rails at Potlatch

Ten railroad speeder cars were on the track Saturday to provide rides as a fund-raising event for the Washington, Idaho and Montana Depot project at Potlatch. The speeder cars traveled as far east as the Bennett Mill east of Princeton and as far west as Wellesley Road.

Roger Farrell of Albion helped assign paying passengers their seats on the car.

The speeder cars carry logos reflective of railroad history.

The SP&S marking on the road car for Spokane, Portland & Seattle operated on what is now the Columbia Plateau Trail which runs past Lamont.

Bill Elzey of Touchet, left, and Sterling Chapman of Lewiston were two of the rail car operators who participated. They are members of the North American Rail Car Operators Association which coordinates speeder car outings around the region.
