Virginia Hall

Feb. 21, 1927 – July 2, 2018

Virginia Hall, Steptoe resident, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. She was 91. The Vigil Service took place on July 6th at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery at Steptoe. Virginia was born on February 21, 1927, in Dimock, S.D. to Henry and Mary Herrmann. She was the fourth of eight children born into a hard-working German-American family. Following her education, she worked in retail stores in South Dakota and for a time in California. While working in Rapid City, S.D., she met Don Hall. They were married on April 9, 1953. Following their marriage, Don and Virginia lived in Rincon, Puerto Rico, where Don was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. In 1954, they moved to Steptoe and began farming. Virginia was involved with her community and church serving as a 4H leader and CCD teacher. She was a member of Steptoe Grange and Grange Auxiliary, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Steptoe Fire Department Auxiliary. Most of all, Virginia enjoyed caring for, supporting and feeding her family, and babysitting often for each of her grandchildren. She loved to crochet, cook, bake, travel and collect souvenir spoons. She was a huge fan of local sports teams including the Mariners and Zags. Virginia battled through many illnesses and surgeries in her 91 years and had always worked hard to recover and regain mobility. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Don; by her children, Mike and Linda Siler, Greg and Lavonne Hall and Roger and Cindy Hall; by her six grandchildren; Jeff (Jessi) Hall, Stephanie (Kenny) Hall, Josh (Holly) Siler, Deanna (Ryan) Kile, Nate Siler and Natalie Hall. Also by six great-grandchildren, Chloe and Carter Hall, Nora and Julia Miller and Nelly and Perry Kile; by a sister, Marie Gordan, and two brothers, Elmer Herrmann and Charles (Shirley) Herrmann, all from South Dakota as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church Foundation, the Whitman County Library (Friends of the Library) or to the Bethel Cemetery at Steptoe. An online guestbook is at bruningfuneralhome.com. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is caring for the family.
