Five-year-old child found

A five-year-old boy who was reported missing after darting off the trail at Kamiak Butte July 2 was located about 45 minutes after a search got underway. The boy was found in an area of fairly dense trees and brush about one-half mile from where he detoured off the trail during a family hike, Sheriff Brett Myers reported.

The boy's mother called 911 at about 1:30 p.m. to report the youngster had hurried off the trail. Searchers determined he had gone missing near the first vista point on the Kamiak trail, about one-half mile from the parking lot at Kamiak.
