Fire in Snake River canyon covers 1,300 acres

Fire crews from this area responded July 4 to a range fire which started in the Nisqually John Canyon along the Snake River about 12 miles downstream from Clarkston.

The fire moved up a steep part of the canyon which could not be reached by crews from Colton District 14 when they responded to the scene.

Airplanes and a helicopter were used on the fire and the Whitman County Sheriff’s marine patrol was used on the river to clear a zone for the aircraft to scoop up water.
