Failure to register

Dustin M. Birch, 42, was sentenced Friday to six days in jail with credit for time served after he pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. According to the arrest report, Birch, who was convicted of child rape in Pierce County in 1992, called the sheriff's office last September and advised them he was moving out of his residence in Garfield. The report said he then failed to report a new address. He was charged with failing to register between Oct. 1 and Nov. 5 of last year.

Birch, who is a level II sex offender, was signed into the jail Nov. 9.

He was also ordered to pay $800 in fines and fees.
