Colfax fire engine three sold

January 25, 2018

Colfax Fire Engine Three has been sold for $4,800, Fire Capt. Tim Tingley reported today. The 1980 GMC had been offered for sale on a public surplus internet site and had received a high bid of $3,575 as of the last city council session. Tingley said bidding for the truck became lively as the deadline for the auction approached.

He reported to the city council Tuesday that the truck had sold for $4,000, but a last round of bidding later bumped the sale to $4,800.

The truck was sold to a farmer in the Uniontown area who took delivery of the truck Friday morning. The GMC's four-wheel-drive feature appealed to the farmer who has property on the Snake River breaks.

The fire truck had been declared surplus by the city after the purchase of a 1994 Pierce pumper truck from Keizer, Ore. The department moved to purchase another truck because the GMC could no longer meet pumping pressure levels required for fire ratings.

At the previous council session, Fire Chief Craig Corbeill reported the department intended to use proceeds from the sale to purchase a new thermal imaging camera. He said the camera had been lost at the Dec. 23 house fire on Main Street.

Tingley Tuesday explained the aging camera wasn't actually lost at the fire scene, but it failed to operate when firefighters attempted to use it.
