Obituaries: Dec. 21, 2017

A service for Lela Mae Allan, 85, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at the Palouse Federated Church. She died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, in Clarkston at the home of her daughter where she had been living the past six years.

Born April 8, 1932, to William and Eva Batten of Palouse, she graduated from Palouse High School in 1950, spent a year at Multnomah Bible College and moved to Lewiston where she began her career in banking. She returned home to Palouse a few years later and resided there until 1992.

In 1953, Mae married Charles Arrasmith. They had four children, Kirk, Teresa, Tamara and Mignon. They were later divorced, and in 1965 she married Eugene Allan. They had a daughter, Michelle.

When her children were all in school, she worked in Pullman for a short time and then returned to Palouse and worked for ONB and later U.S. Bank as a teller and then as branch manager for more than 20 years.

Mae enjoyed dancing, gardening, watching the San Francisco 49ers and traveling. She was a member of the Palouse Federated Church for most of her life.

She retired in 1992 and moved to Clarkston.

Her family includes a son Kirk Arrasmith (Jenifer Jensen), daughters Teresa (Burnell) Arndt, Tamara Arrasmith, Mignon Arrasmith, Michelle Allan (Ray Singer); five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Donald Dayton, Sr., retired truck driver, passed away December 12, 2017, at his winter vacation home in Yuma, Arizona. He was 83. Don was born on January 18, 1934 in Colfax, Wash., to Dwight and Louella Dayton. A private graveside service will be held next week at the Colfax Cemetery with Reverend Bob Ingalls officiating. A public memorial service will be held on April 21, 2018.

Don lived in Colfax his entire life and raised his family in the same area where he grew up. As a young man he worked on his mother’s family farm near Dusty, then began a truck driving career in the early 1960’s. Don liked to hunt and fish on the Snake River and enjoyed working with his hands and building the occasional “hot rod.” After retiring, Don became an avid golfer and spent much of his free time honing his skills at the Colfax Golf Course. Once retired, he and Mary, his wife of 55 years, began spending the winter months in Yuma,

Arizona, where he golfed and enjoyed the comradery of many friends and long-time acquaintances.

Don is survived by sons, Craig (Cathie) Dayton of Bow, Wash., Doug (Sharon) Dayton of Otis Orchards, Wash .; step-son, Mike (Julie) Longmire of Corvallis, Ore .; sister, Evelyn French and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friend, Mary Ann Mitchell. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dayton; son, Donald Dayton Jr .; step-daughter, Connie Dayton; and sister, Elaine Frederecks and by his parents.
