Patrick Duncan

Patrick A. Duncan, 53, a lifelong Tekoa area resident, died Nov. 16, 2017, at his rural Spokane County home. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Born Oct. 1, 1964, at Spokane, he was raised by Robert and Joyce Trescott Towne. When Robert Towne died, Joyce married William Duncan, and the couple adopted Patrick. Patrick attended schools in Tekoa and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1983. Pat attended Spokane Community College for one year, and the University of Idaho in Moscow for one year. He was a member of the University of Idaho marching band. He returned home and farmed with his family.

Patrick was a member of the Oakesdale Masonic Lodge, and the Whitman County Shriners Club. He enjoyed fly fishing, camping and spending time at the Big Creek campground. He had been a former volunteer EMT with Tekoa Ambulance. He had been married and divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristina Duncan of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Kimberly Duncan of Plummer, Idaho; siblings, Lori Hay, Tekoa; Debbie Harp, Tekoa; Randy Duncan, Tekoa, and David Duncan, Worley, Idaho.

Funeral services for Thelma M. Johnson, 87, were Nov. 21 at the Tekoa Community Church. Pastor Marlow Thompson officiated and burial followed at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Thelma died Nov. 12 at her home north of Tensed.

Born Dec. 7, 1929, to Milton and Alma (Ryser) Krell at the family home west of Tekoa, she moved with her family to the farm on the Spokane/Whitman County line where she was raised. She started school in Latah, and when they moved to Tekoa, completed her education at Tekoa High School and graduated in 1947.

She and Robert L. Johnson were married Dec. 31, 1950, at Latah. They made their home initially on the Johnson Brothers Farm near Tensed and moved to their new farm home north of Tensed in 1953. Mr. Johnson died in 1984. She continued to be active on the farm and was driving tractor earlier this fall.

She was a founding member of the Tensed Ambulance with 20 years of service. Thelma was a former member of the Andrew Springs Ladies Club, the Highland Ladies Club and was active in the Tuesday Pinochle Club in Tekoa. She was a former member and office holder of the Tensed Grange. Thelma played on town basketball and softball teams in Plummer, Tensed and Tekoa. Her hobbies included woodworking and quilting. Thelma also enjoyed Gonzaga basketball and watching tennis.

Survivors include her children, Gary (Teresa) Johnson, DeSmet, Idaho; Rhonda (Mike) Mishalanie, Kirkland; Dale (Connie) Johnson, DeSmet, Idaho; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Juanita Saterfiel, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Doloris (George) Young, Oakesdale, and Geraldine Krell, Spokane.
