Moscow seeks art for traffic boxes

The City of Moscow has put out a call to artists for vinyl wrap designs for traffic boxes.

The call is open to individuals who are 18 or older who live in Latah, Nez Perce, Asotin or Whitman counties, or who are Nez Perce or Coeur d'Alene tribal members.

The city has selected four traffic control boxes in Moscow for the vinyl art installations. The boxes are located at the corners of Jackson and A streets, Jackson and College streets, Sixth and Alley streets and at the waste water treatment plant entrance near Warbonnet Road and Highway 8.

The waste water treatment plant box is the largest of the four, coming in at 53.5 inches tall by 132.26 inches in length. In order to submit a design for this box, it is required that the artists tour the location first. Tours can be arranged by contacting Todd Swanstrom, treatment plant supervisor, at 208-883-7091 or tswanstrom@

The Sixth and Alley streets box measures seven inches at the side, 20.5 inches wide and 41.25 inches tall. This box hangs on a utility pole, so the wrap will not extend to the back of the box.

The wrap for the Jackson and College location will be approximately 51 inches tall by 77 inches in length, while the one at Jackson and A will be approximately 50.25 inches tall by 143 inches in length.

Entries are due to the City of Moscow by Monday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. The installation of the selected designs will take place by Sept. 29.

Artists are allowed to work with a graphic designer or print specialist to create a digital representation that is suitable for the vinyl wrap medium.

Details, including how to submit and pictures of the traffic boxes, can be found at http://www.ci.moscow.id.us.
