Soundararajan earns art honor

Rajeswari Soundararajan, director of Sudiksha Center for Classical Arts of India in Pullman, was named recipient of this year's mayor’s award for Artwalk. She teaches and performs a classical dance of India called Bharatanatyam. Since 2008, she has showcased this cultural dance with her students through annual Sudiksha charity dance concerts. She has raised more than $6,000 in donations from her dance concerts for many non-profit charitable organizations across the Palouse.

Garfield senior meal

Next Garfield senior meal for residents of Garfield, Farmington and Elberton will be Thursday, May 18, at the Garfield Legion Grange Hall. The menu will be boiled ham with applesauce and mustard sauce, mashed potatoes with country gravy, green beans, green salad with dressing, a dinner roll with butter and coffee and juice. Dessert will be brownies with ice cream. Entertainment will be music provided by Garfield grade school students.

At Whitman Hospital and Medical Center Campbell, Zoey Shane, born May 5 at seven pounds, 11 ounces, to James and Angela Campbell, Colfax. Paternal grandparents are Charles Campbell, Colfax, and Shannon Ayers, Deer Park. Maternal grandparents are Steven and Diane Hornfeldt, Milwaukee, Wis. Baby joins siblings Ariella and Steven.
