Mary Dayton

A graveside service will be held for Mary Dayton, 79, retired Colfax nurse, Saturday, May 13, 11 a.m. at the Colfax Cemetery with the Rev. Don Moore officiating.

Mrs. Dayton died April 25, 2017, at Whitman Hospital in Colfax.

Born May 15, 1937, in Eureka, Kan., to Leo and Faye (Tannahill) Luna, she moved with her family to an area near Yakima. She attended school in Yakima and liked to play baseball at school. She married and had two children to raise when that marriage ended.

She moved to Spokane where she met Donald Dayton, Sr. They were married at Dusty Aug. 5, 1961, and blended their families together at their Colfax home. They lived in Colfax for more than 50 years. She worked at St. Ignatius Hospital and then at the new Whitman Hospital as an LPN. She retired after more than 33 years in 1999.

She liked camping, bowling in leagues and visiting with family and friends. Mary and Don spent many winters in Yuma, Ariz.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Dayton, Sr., Colfax home; sons Mike (Julie) Longmire, Corvallis, Ore., and Doug (Sharon) Dayton, Otis Orchards, Wash .; stepson Craig (Kathy) Dayton, Bow; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by daughter, Connie Dayton, and stepson, Donald Dayton, Jr.

Leah Ann Orr

Leah Ann Orr, former Colfax resident, died April 21, 2017, in Sun City, Ariz. A memorial service will be Thursday, May 11, at 11 a.m at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way in Spokane.

The daughter of Harold and Edna Folsom, she moved to Colfax with her family in 1944 and graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1957. She was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell, and her first husband, the late Donald Williams, was employed in the print shop at what was then the Colfax Gazette. He died as a young man, and she later married Bill Orr and they lived in the Spokane Valley. She retired from the telephone company and for several years they spent winters in Arizona.

Among survivors are three sons, Clint, Spokane; Robert, Los Angeles, and Bryan, Spokane; a brother, Barry Folsom; a half-brother, Kevin Folsom; a step-brother, Mike Burke, and a stepsister, Leslie Michler.
