Garfield restrooms still open

The Garfield public restrooms in the park remain open beyond their normal Oct. 1 closing date.

“It's been so extremely nice,” said Garfield Mayor Ray McCown. “We still have flowers blooming that would normally be frozen. It's really exceptional.”

The Garfield park restrooms do not have heat.

Last year, another exceptionally warm fall, the restrooms still closed Oct. 1.

This year, McCown is working with Public Works Assistant Mark Phillips.

He advises Phillips week-to-week.

“We'll watch it for another week,” McCown said. “When the weather gets to freezing, we'll close it for the winter. We're five, six weeks longer than normal.”
