Osborne Day?

May 3 is the 84th birthday of Robert Osborne. Mr. Osborne is one of the most well known film historians in the United States. For the past twenty years he has been the primary host on the Turner Classic Movie Channel.

I just got back from a trip to Hollywood. The folks down there are doing things to celebrate Mr. Osborne’s amazing life.

Mr. Osborne is one of the most famous people ever to have been born in Whitman County. What has his hometown done to celebrate his life?

May I suggest that May 3, 2017, be proclaimed “Robert Osborne Day” in Colfax. Celebrate his 85th birthday with a community wide celebration.

There are a lot of film buffs in Spokane and Seattle and Portland who would make the trip to Colfax just to share in celebrating Mr. Osborne’s life. And the more tourists who come to town, the more tourist dollars are spent in Colfax.

I am not some fancy publicist. I am just a regular old guy who lives in Spokane and loves movies.

As the athletic director at Oakesdale Schools I am writing this letter in appreciation to the Colfax community, school board, administration, athletic director, baseball and softball coaches, and especially the players for allowing four of our students to come down and play those spring sports in Colfax.

We have been welcomed since day one and even before the season started. When our students attended a Colfax basketball game this winter, some of the Colfax students asked our students to sit by them and told them that they were excited to have them come down and play ball with them this spring.

Now that the regular season is over and playoffs lie ahead, we just wanted to say thank you again as we are so grateful to be a part of the Colfax program. Providing the opportunity for these students–Kieron Anderson and Evan Henning in baseball, and Madison Shrope and Lindsey Lindgren, who play softball–to play a sport they truly enjoy has meant a lot to them and their families.
