Pitts farm receives century farm honor

January 27, 2016

Dusty

Kim and Cindy Pitts have received the Whitman County Century Farm certificate from the county commissioners. Their farm was bought in 1915 by Kim's great-grandfather, John Stueckle. It was acquired by Kim's grandparents J.A. and Rosa Stueckle in 1919 and passed on to Kim and his brothers Jon, Steve and Jeff Pitts in 1993. In 2015, Kim and Cindy Pitts acquired sole ownership. Whitman County farms which have been owned and operated by the same family for 100 years qualify for recognition as a century farm.

Michelle Christie, daughter of Beth Christie, has been visiting her mother and Loren Scaggs since a week ago Wednesday. She returned to her home in Buffalo, New York, Monday.

Sharry O’Hearne and Vicki Broeckel attended the funeral service in Pomeroy Saturday for their cousin, Nikki Caldwell. Also attending from the Colfax area were relatives, Gary and Kay Stilson.

Several Dusty women took a watercolor class through the community college program at the Whitman County Library in Colfax. Liz Appel organized those attending: Helen Appel, Shannon Appel and Lisa Frei, Palouse.

LaRae Claassen and Karen Broeckel were among approximately 20 women who attended a baby shower for Emily Nolan at her home in Colfax Saturday. Hostess was Emily’s long time friend, Trista Engle of Spokane. A baby girl is due in March.
