Rosalia honors veterans at Memorial Park

Rosalia

The annual Rosalia Veterans Day ceremony commenced Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park in Rosalia. Rosalia Chamber of Commerce president, Patricia Voge, presided and welcomed all veterans. Father Mike Savelesky led the gathering in a prayer for peace for our nation and safety for our troops.

Ken and Veva Jean Hames received a certificate of appreciation from the Chamber for their work on the park.

Mayor Nan Konishi thanked those in attendance with a reminder of the history of Veterans Day, and Rosalia Boy Scouts presented the United States flag disposal ceremony and unfurled the new flag for the park.

Karl Diseldorff led the gathering in patriotic songs.

School Superintendent Larry Keller, retired Air Force Colonel, enlightened the crowd of the honor, duty and sacrifices veterans and their families endure to protect the United States.

Julie Pittmann, Washington State Daughters of the American Revolution Vice Regent, dedicated the service wreath in honor of those Veterans who served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces. On behalf of the Department of Defense and the DAR, she presented, with the aid of the Boy Scouts, Vietnam veteran pins to those Vietnam veterans present, including Wayne Henning, Steven Beach and Keller.

At the conclusion of the program, the VFW rifle team led by Bill Hoffman presented arms and Taps was played.

The Rosalia scouts hosted a community luncheon after the program.
