Palouse Cares

marks 10th year

The 10th annual Palouse Cares food drive and auctions will be next Saturday, Dec. 5, with 16 communities participating beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sites in Whitman County will include Zeppoz in Pullman, Colfax Food Pantry, McLeod’s Palouse Market, Albion Food Bank, LaDow Grange at Garfield, Colton Post Office and Rosalia Food Pantry. Food, baked goods, music and fundraising will a be part of the activities.

All donations to the food drive and proceeds from the auctions benefit local food banks and non-profit organizations.

Pomona meeting

Whitman County Pomona Grange officer's meeting will be Sunday, Nov. 29, at 1:30 p.m. to share ideas and plan for the coming year. Jim and Bonnie Lyle will host the event at their home, 307 E. Cooper St., Colfax.

Books for

Toy Drive

The Friends of Whitman County Library has a collection box located in the Colfax Library for new children and teen books. The books collected will be given to the Fireman’s Toy Drive. Please leave donations at the Colfax Library by Dec 10.

RT craft sale

set at Palouse

Palouse Round Table club's annual Christmas Craft sale will be next Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Palouse Community Center. A lunch will be served a noon with ham, scalloped potatoes as lead items with pie as dessert for $8. The pie and coffee will be available all day.

The club this year will raffle off a quilt made by Karen Huber, a large basket of goodies and a $100 certificate to shop at the Palouse Market.

Proceeds from the sale provide scholarships which are awarded to graduates of Garfield/Palouse High School. Three $1,000 scholarships were awarded last year.

Pullman LWV

Debbie Snell, Port of Whitman properties and development manager, and Dan Boone, port commissioner, will present an overview of the Port of Whitman County and answer questions at the next meeting of the Pullman League of Women Voters Dec. 7 at Umpqua Bank in Pullman, 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Topic for the group's noon brown bag session, Thursday Dec. 17, at Community Congregation Church will be The WSU THC Breathalyzer: Analytical Chemistry & Criminal Justice Teamwork to the Rescue. The public is invited to attend.

Athenaeum

Annual Christmas luncheon for Athenaeum will be at the United Methodist Church Dec. 4 at 11:30 a.m. It will be hosted by the yearbook committee.

Hospital Auxiliary

The hospital auxiliary has their Angel Tree on display in the waiting room of the Whitman County Hospital and Medical Center. Anyone wishing to have the name of a loved one or friend placed on the tree can arrange do so at the Blue Bird Gift Shop in the hospital. Names placed on an angel can be in memory of or in honor of whatever they choose.

Rosalia Garden Club

Members will take a special tour of Campbell House, Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture, 2316 W 1st Avenue, Spokane, Dec. 2. Members should meet at the Rosalia mini-park at 10:30 a.m. if they need a ride. The one hour tour is scheduled for noon.

This is the club's special Christmas celebration tour and lunch. The lunch will be at 1 p.m. in the Café Mac following the tour, with meeting to follow.

Members are reminded to bring their fresh evergreen Christmas greens (wreath or swag) to hang in the gazebo at the mini-park. They need to be placed before Dec. 5. For further information, contact club president Mary Ann Bowman.
